It’s not quite summer but it sure feels like it here in Chicago. Have a great weekend all!

One of my favorite desserts growing up is a filipino dessert we call halo-halo (short “a”). The word “halo” means mix in tagalog. This dessert is basically a mixture of my favorite filipino desserts in one. You can find a variety of recipes here. Have fun with it. Here are some ingredients I definitely like including in my halo-halo:

My boy turned 1 yesterday! It was a mellow day with papa, grandma, grandmalou and his aunties and uncles—perfect as the clear blue skies. I can’t believe it’s been a year. I thank God each day for blessing us with this beautiful child. He amazes me and my husband every day. Happy Birthday to the dearest love of our lives.
Here’s a short video of Asher’s Instagram moments (@smilelifestye).

When my sister and I were in 5th grade, we used to play with my mom’s makeup. Sometimes, right before school, we would put on a little (a lot) foundation, neutral (bright!) eye shadow and lipstick that only looked perfect on my mom. Despite all the awful makeup wear we experienced then and now, my sister and I still enjoy experimenting with them. Thanks to my cousin and a few YouTube tutorials, we’re getting better at it. One thing that I’ve never been brave enough to wear is a bright and playful lip color. I’m a Chapstick-kind-of-gal. I just didn’t know what shades work well with my skin tone, plus lipstick on my teeth (forget it!).
This Spring, colors are inspiring me to be bold. I just love all the hot pinks and corals. So, while I was at the store browsing for a black eyeliner, I picked up a bright coral lipstick—because it was pretty. That color didn’t turn out quite well so I went back and grabbed a different color—TADA! this is my Spring (Fifth Ave. Fuchsia).I’ve worn it out while on a date with my husband, and honestly (and, I know this is silly), I feel confident and sophisticated.
I’m not quite ready to invest on an expensive brand but I like the low-key brands like Maybelline and L’Oreal. This is also a fun way to experiment with different colors. What colors do you plan to wear this Spring?
